SM-semi Arlanda Jets at Stockholm Mean Machines
This Saturday at 15.00 at Kärrtorps IP the Arlanda Jets will face off against the defending national champions, Stockholm Mean Machines, in a game that maybe not so many people in Sweden are aware of. It seems that after Carlstad beat Göteborg in the other semi-final match last weekend that everybody is talking about the Carlstad-Stockholm rematch in the final. I can’t say that I blame them based on the way that we played the Mean Machines in the first two meetings this season. Stockholm won and won convincingly. We have played 8 uninspired quarters of football against them. The plan is simple - play inspired football! Nothing can bring a player to his best, better than having his back to the wall. This is win or go home time in the play-offs. Every team wants to play on September 4th. The only way you can is to win the week before that. That is what we plan to do.
On offense the Jets have transformed into an entirely different Jets offense than in the past. American Import quarterback, Luis Gonzalez, has passed this season for 27 touchdowns and the old offensive line has given up only 5 sacks on the entire year. The running game has changed schemes, but not faces as Johan Winberg continues to be a big play threat anytime he touches the ball. Micke Öhman also seems to be on the rise as a running back and seems to be ready to play after injuring his foot in the Gothenburg game. Fullback Mathias Jangenäs has shown that he can block, run and be a threat catching the ball out of the backfield. The wide receiver corp has gotten better and better each week and have proven that they can score on the long ball and the run after the catch. Chris Stephens has racked up 12 touchdown receptions this year and Nick Elman is not far behind. Also catching TD passes has been Stefan Axelsson, Johan Winberg, Abdel Mainou Seidou and Mathias Jangenäs. The offensive game plan is simple… execute. We have proven that we can score and move the ball against everybody in Sweden. We have one more chance to prove we can do it against Stockholm.
On defense, the story remains the same. When we tackle and pursue aggressively and smart, we can stop people. That is simply the goal defensively against any opponent. Jermaine Smith is back on the defensive line along with Aris Sanchez, Janne Ronkainen and Mats Rüdén. The linebacker crew is anchored by SAFF’s nominee Kristoffer Blank and the veteran Andreas Öström. Stefan Axelsson will assume the role of being the QB of the defense and directing the defense from his free safety position. The secondary will have the challenge of covering a very talented group of wide receivers, while the front will attack the run game and quarterback of Stockholm.
Yes, Gary Nilsson, there will be a game on Saturday and I will bring you some chocolate…..
