Final Comments on CC game:
Not much left to say about the match. I thought Gary's article pretty much summed it up. We had some bright spots, especially the way we started the game. We just need to come together and click on offense. Overall we showed signs of being a good team, but we also showed signs of needing a lot of improvement. The game comes down to blocking, tackling, catching, running and decision-making. At times we were on and at times we were way, way off. But the season is long (especially in Sweden) and we have time to improve.
The turning point in the game was just before half time. There were 42 seconds on the clock we are at mid-field, tied 6-6. I elected to go for it, feeling a little greedy, instead of punting the ball and giving the Crusaders a long field with little time. The Crusader D stopped us short on the 4th down. The CC offense then completed a long pass to Pearl to set up the eventual TD, which not only gave them the momentum at half, but also made me feel the sting of a poor coaching decision. The game was played with a lot of emotion and some good hits and everybody shook hands afterwards, the way the game was meant to be played.
Next Game Vs Jamtland Republicans
This Sunday, the Jets will travel "up north" to play the Jamtland Republicans. The boys from the north are coming off a big win against their northern rivals the Sundsvall Flames. Jamtland is not a team to over-look. I have seen them on film and they play aggressive, hit hard and run to the ball. They are not a fancy team but a team that aligns in a sound defense versus all formations. They also have Bo Winnberg on the field and he must be reckoned with or accounted for on every play. On offense, we must be aware of our blitz responsibilities and we must execute at a more consistent and higher level than in the previous week. We really need to up our completion percentage a great deal to play the kind of offense that we are trying to get installed. We need protection to hold up and we need for Luis to make good decisions. If we can do that effective enough, that will allow the running back crew to move the ball on the ground for us.
48 of 62!! Or who is Justin Vence??
The Republican offense is led by their American running back, Justin Vence. He scored 48 of their 62 points versus the Flames. He is a back that the JR uses in the middle, around the end and as a receiver. Anytime he touches the ball, it seems he gets plus yardage. A big key to the game this week is the Jets D vs. Justin Vence. We will need to keep him in check throughout the entire game. Anytime a team has a player that the defense must stop, that can open the door for another offensive player. This week we will need to concentrate on controlling Mr. Vence and not letting anyone else sneak through for a big play.
