Just thought I would type a review and update on LL.
We put together a successfull camp at Zinken in a hurry. The first practice was OK, but the important thing is that every practice after that got better and better. As you all know, we took the boat to Finland and played a very good game. Offensively, we really took control of the game and ran the ball excellently. I was very pleased with the offensive production against the Finns. The most impressive was the 10 point swing we got on our last series before the first half and the first possession of the 2nd half. In the first half the Defense used 2 of our three time-outs and forced the Finns to punt the ball to us with 1 time out in our pocket. Offense came out in no back and moved the ball down the field. We were able to get close enough to have Jens kick a FG with 8 seconds left, then scored on our first possession of the second half.
Defensively we played very, very good. Finland moved the ball on their first possession, but the D stiffened up and shut them down for the rest of the day. Anytime you give up only two big plays to a team QB'd by Petras Penki then it can be a good day.
The trip to Austria was a coaches nightmare and a players dream. We had no practices, just got on the bus and went and played. The Austrians played a 34 defense and brought people from everywhere. This made getting yardage very tough. Our answer offensively was to spread them out and try to pick our spots. It wasn't always pretty, but I think it is a good sign when you can rush for a ton of yards one week, come back the next and throw for 50% and move the ball in your no back offense when the defense is bringing people from everywhere and win the game.
Defensively, the boys played very tough. We gave up few big plays to Austria and had control of the game from a defensive standpoint. The biggest play was obviously forcing the turnover after the Austrians had put together a good drive. The offense then came on the field and drove down for the winning score. It was a great come from behind win. As a coach, it is good to see your team win a game they control from start to finish and then the next week to come from behind and get the win in the last seconds.
So now what?? LL will have skelly practice every Thursday starting next week, at 19.30 in Märsta. All players on the 75 man roster are invited. If you are not on the 75 man roster and are interested in attending a practice contact me at bdkfbcoach@yahoo.com
After the first of the year we will probably have team camps in Feb, march and April to finalize the 45 man roster we can take to Japan. I can tell you that competition for spots is at an all time high. It should be an exciting time for Sr LL football leading up to the VM's in July!!
Until then, remember what the Bear used to say, "everybody has the will to win, but not everybody has the will to prepare to win!"
