After 2 serious months of training the Avalanche juniors and seniors continue to advance their skills as American Football Players.

On Thursday this week the Avalanche Senior Team made their first journey into the American football world. The seniors went to Luleå to train with the once mighty Luleå Eskimos. The Avalanche arrived early and were determined to show their northern division rivals they will be contenders for the northern division immediately. After a couple of shaky plays the defensive unit came together and held the Luleå Offense to very few positive yards. The positives on their first outing were forcing fumbles and attacking where ever the ball carrier tried to find an opening.

The Offense finally got its turn and took the field. The nervousness showed on the first couple of plays with a dropped touchdown pass, another pass bouncing off the back of a wide open reciever's head , an incomplete pass, and an interception by Luleås 2004 season MVP.. The tempo was set only a few plays into the offense being on the field when rookie runningback Andreas Lindkvist ran like a seasoned veteran juking left and right while breaking 3 tackles and running 40 yards for a TD. The same thing happened a few plays later when he took it off left tackle for 40 yards untouched for his 2nd score. The game tempo was set.

After the possession switch the Avalanche defense held the Eskimo defense pretty much to no positive plays more than 3 yards forcing more fumbles and busting up the Eskimos offense that appeared unorganized and overwhelmed.

The Avalanche took their offense back on the field and there was no doubt in a single Avalanche players mind that they were going to walk out of Arcus Hallen a contender for the northern division in their first year. On the very first play Eric Olsson took a 3 yard slant the length of the field and then did it 2 more times untouched. Tommy Lindkvist added 2 more scores and on the last play fullback P.A. Stenman took aswing pass out of the backfield 35 yards punishing a lone tackler by raming him flat on his back as he crossed the goal line. Five touchdowns in 10 plays. That gave the Avalanche 8 touchdowns and the Eskimos nothing after each team had 20 offensive plays.

After each team fullfilled the scrimmage schedule there was still a bit of time left for the Eskimos offense to run more plays and they finally managed to get into the endzone. One touchdown came off a tipped pass by an Avalanche defender that fell into the hands of an Eskimo reciever. The 2nd came off blown coverage from an Avalanche corner. The defense still managed positive plays on their 3rd time out forcing more fumbles,bad decisions,batted balls, and an interception by the Avalanche Strong Safety Gerry Dailey.

After analization of the game film the Eskimos had more than 30 offensive plays and the Avalanche had 20 offensive plays.The Avalanche offensive and defesive lines were very solid and often played like seasoned starters against a patched up Eskimos front.

This training layed a foundation for the future of the Jokkmokk Avalanche. Great Job!!!

Mycket bra och välskriven scrim-report. Det vore en fröjd om alla lag kunde göra såna saker.

Jag var inne på förbundets hemsida och kollade in spelschemat. Hur kommer det sig att lagen i norra bara har enkelmöten. Eftersom ni bara är fyra lag känns det som att dubbel- eller trippelmöten vore bättre. Personligen tycker jag det skulle kännas rätt trist att träna hela försässongen och sedan få spela endast tre matcher.
