How about getting rid of the "up & down" system in American football in Sweden!!! Or does that make too much sense!? Just develop a "Super Series", and then four divisions in "Division 1" (North, South, East, and West) and then four divisions in "Division 2" -- as you have it today. BUT then develop a REAL playoff system within Division 1 (winner can CHOOSE to go up to Super Series), then a playoff system that crowns a true Division 2 Champion (who can then CHOOSE to go up to Division 1. This constant "up & down" system every year DOES NOT WORK!!! It is killing the sport from the inside out. SAFF has to realize that running THIS sport like all of the other sports in Sweden (with bumping "up" and bumping "down" each year is why the sport is dying a slow death.

About "Up&Down". This is how it almost works today in practice. The difference is that their is no championship game between the winners of the division 2 playoff games. The winner of a playoff game has always the opportunity to decline an advance to the higher division. For example, last year Lund won their playoff game against Carlstad and was then qualified for div 1 but they wanted to stay in div 2. As I see it the last team in div 1 can always apply to stay especially if a div 2 team declines advance.
About four div I. Sorry to say but their isn't enough teams to go with that. 2004 was the last year we played with four div I where the teams were divided into two conferences A and B which could be seen as div I and II. The major reason for this system was, there weren’t enough teams for four div 1 and four div 2. However games between conferences A and B where in many cases blow out games and there were only a couple of teams in each division that played even (maybe div east was more even). It was also hard for a new team to meet one of the better teams in conferences A. Back then we had eight team in SS and between 6-8 teams in div I.
Unfortunally teams dropped during the season (as always). Until the season 2005 the system was suppose to change to two div I (north and south) and four div II. In each div I there should be six teams. Very late two teams form SS wanted to drop down and after some discussions they were aloud to play in div I north. In south three team drop out on div I. The decision was then to merge both div I to "Superettan", S1. However one team i south declined this solution and was sent to div 2 west. So last year we had an SS with 6 teams, S1 with 10 teams and four div 2. One team dropped out of SS during the season and after the season one team moved up from S1. One team elected to go down i div 2 and one of the div 2 playoff winners declined an advance to S1. In the beginning of 2006 before starting one team dropped of SS and one team dropped of S1. Two team merge so this year we have 5 team in SS and 8 in S1. When the schedule was made there were 23 teams in div 2. Until today in total 10 teams has dropped of since January.
What about the future. I do agree that a true div 2 championship game would be a good idea but will the teams want to take the cost of such game. I also think that every team that wants to go up in div 1 should be aloud to do so as long as they have the organization for it, i.e. economy and player material to ensure no drop outs. At least until we have enough team to go back with two div 1 and hopefully a SS with 8 team with a minimum of 6 teams. Any division with less than 4 teams is not good (double meeting yields less than six games each) and with only four teams a drop out causes many problem. Perhaps we can expand it to three div 1 and eventually four in the future. However with less than 30 reliable teams it is impossible to create a system with 9 divisions. We don’t have enough teams for 6 divisions.

nej, det är inte alls klart, norrköping är rimligen inte klara seriesegrare innan div2 östra är färdigspelad, och mig veterligen återstår det två omgångar av div2 östra

Thanks for the update. At least it seems to be headed in the right direction. I just think this year-after-year "up & down" of teams from one division to the next takes away the standardization that this sport needs. I hope there will be more efforts to keep the divisions constant and help the teams build themselves back up. Players, coaches, etc. simply want conisistency and that the division that they are in "works" and has teams in it that actually stay committed to completing the season. This also means a willingness to travel to the away games and not "cancel" due to the costs or distance. This is Sweden, so the "luxury" of having several teams "close by" is simply not possible.
